Selection Criteria

Applications are reviewed by GSSI’s Selection Committee, which evaluates candidates on the basis of their academic qualifications, research experience, motivation, and fit with the chosen PhD programme. For the Mathematics programme, the selection process includes evaluation of the applicant’s research background and two separate application tracks — winter and summer rounds — for which candidates may submit two separate applications. For the Computer Science programme, theoretical fluency in areas such as logic, formal methods, algorithms, and programming proficiency are key criteria. International qualifications are formally assessed for equivalency to Italian Master’s degrees during the review process, and candidates may be asked to submit formal verification of their degree. GSSI places strong emphasis on research excellence, innovation, and internationalisation in its selection process.
