The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) Climate Resilience Fellowships, inspired by His Majesty King Charles III and administered by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), provide mid-career professionals working on the frontline of climate adaptation in Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with a fully funded, accredited one-year professional development programme focused on climate adaptation practice. Commonwealth SIDS are among the most vulnerable countries in the world, facing numerous economic, social, and environmental challenges exacerbated by climate change, and the fellowship is designed to catalyse near-immediate practical action by strengthening the capacity of professionals across the public sector, civil society, and private sector.
The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), founded in 1913 and headquartered in London, is the world’s first and oldest international university network, representing over 500 universities in more than 50 Commonwealth countries. The ACU promotes and supports higher education for the benefit of individuals and societies throughout the Commonwealth and beyond, through a wide range of scholarship, fellowship, and capacity development programmes. The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme is one of the ACU’s flagship initiatives, designed in collaboration with Commonwealth governments and institutions to support professionals who are making a direct and meaningful contribution to sustainable development across the Commonwealth.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a mid-career professional working in a climate adaptation practice-related role — mid-career is defined as 5 to 15 years of direct or related experience to climate adaptation practice (not job title), with a planned commitment to 10 to 20 years of increasingly responsible roles within this field
- Must be employed at an organisation registered in an eligible country with a contract valid at least until February 2027
- Must be a citizen of, or hold refugee status in, one of the eligible countries listed below, and their permanent home must be in an eligible country
- Must continue their employment throughout the fellowship — the programme is designed to be completed alongside existing professional commitments

Selection Criteria
Candidates are assessed on the basis of their professional experience in climate adaptation practice, their suitability as mid-career professionals with a demonstrated commitment to 10 to 20 years of increasingly responsible roles in the field, their employment status at an eligible organisation in an eligible Commonwealth SIDS country, and their ability to participate in and complete the one-year blended programme while continuing their current employment. The programme prioritises gender equality and inclusion, and actively centres the voices of local and indigenous communities in the selection and implementation of climate adaptation solutions. Fellows are expected to undertake a workplace-based applied learning project that is grounded in their real-world experiences and contributes to near-immediate practical action in their home country.
