The Fudan University International Student Scholarships comprise two major scholarship programmes available to international students: the Chinese Government Scholarship (University Program) funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), and the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for Foreign Students. Both scholarships provide comprehensive financial support covering tuition fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly living stipend, allowing international students to focus entirely on their academic and research goals at one of China’s most prestigious universities. For the Chinese Government Scholarship (University Channel), applicants must submit their application via the CSC online system and simultaneously complete a second application on Fudan University’s international student portal, uploading the signed CSC form and all required supporting documents.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

Must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and in good health
Must meet the physical examination requirements stipulated by the Chinese Government
Undergraduate applicants: must hold a high school diploma and be under 25 years of age
Master’s applicants: must hold a Bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years of age
PhD applicants: must hold a Master’s degree and be under 40 years of age
Must meet the language requirements of the chosen programme — English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) for English-taught programmes, or HSK for Chinese-taught programmes
Must not be receiving any other Chinese Government Scholarship at the time of application
International travel costs are not included and must be arranged and paid by the student

Selection Criteria

Applications are assessed competitively by Fudan University’s International Students Office in coordination with the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Candidates are evaluated on the strength of their academic record, quality of the research proposal (for postgraduate applicants), language proficiency, and the overall strength of their supporting documents including transcripts, letters of recommendation, a study plan, and proof of degree. For the University Channel of the Chinese Government Scholarship, a pre-admission letter from a Fudan University supervisor significantly strengthens the application and is strongly recommended for competitive programmes. Scholarship recipients are generally not permitted to change their academic programme or study period after admission.
