The Common Good Cyber Fund (CGCF) Grant Program is a pooled-donor fund launched in 2025 by the Internet Society Foundation, in close collaboration with the Common Good Cyber Ecosystem Committee and a Strategic Advisory Committee, to sustain nonprofit organisations whose work strengthens the public-interest cybersecurity ecosystem. The Fund consists of pooled donations from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom, the German Federal Foreign Office, Global Affairs Canada, the Internet Society, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Internet Society Foundation, headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA, is the charitable arm of the Internet Society an international organisation founded in 1992 that advocates for an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet for everyone. The Foundation provides grant funding to support the Internet Society’s vision and funds a range of programmes spanning community connectivity, Internet governance, cybersecurity, research, and digital inclusion. Through initiatives such as the Common Good Cyber Fund, the Foundation actively works to address the underfunding of the nonprofit cybersecurity ecosystem and to protect vulnerable communities, civil society organisations, and high-risk digital actors from escalating cyber threats worldwide.
Benefits of the Programme
This programme will provide the following to its recipients:
- A two-year multi-year operating grant in the range of USD $100,000 to $300,000
- Maximum total grant of $300,000 over the full two-year grant period
- At least USD $3.5 million will be awarded through this funding round

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a qualifying nonprofit organisation — U.S. 501(c)(3) or international equivalent — focused on cybersecurity
- Must have an official bank account in the organisation’s name that can receive funds from a foundation based in the United States
- Must demonstrate alignment with the CGCF’s purpose and at least one of its three programme objectives: (1) Maintenance of critical cybersecurity infrastructure; (2) Delivery of scalable support to secure Internet users from digital harm, including state-directed cyber activity and digital transnational repression; or (3) Advancement of a safer Internet for vulnerable groups and high-risk communities, including civil society and journalists
- Must provide evidence that the organisation delivers cybersecurity infrastructure and/or services that protect high-risk communities and strengthen broader resilience
- Must demonstrate credible organisational capacity, including implementation experience and governance structures
- Must register in the Foundation’s Fluxx grants management system at least 24 hours before the application deadline

Selection Criteria
Applications are screened by the Internet Society Foundation by late July 2026, with the strongest applications advancing to external review by an Independent Program Review Committee (IPRC) convened for this purpose. Reviewers are selected from diverse backgrounds and geographies, including cybersecurity experts and cross-sector professionals from civil society, journalism, policy, and research. Selection is based on the organisation’s nonprofit status and eligibility, alignment with CGCF programme objectives, evidence of service delivery to high-risk communities, demonstrated organisational capacity and governance, and potential for ecosystem building including geographic reach and, where relevant, the ability to regrant to smaller organisations. In 2026, organisations based in the global majority or with capacity to regrant to organisations in the global majority will be prioritised.
