The MARIHE (Master in Research and Innovation in Higher Education) is the only Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme in the world specifically designed for future leaders, innovators, and change-makers in the field of higher education. Established in 2012 and supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, MARIHE is a unique, highly selective, and globally oriented programme jointly conducted by an international consortium of seven universities across Austria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, China, and India. The programme is coordinated by the University for Continuing Education Krems in Austria. MARIHE offers all selected students a tuition fee scholarship as well as a limited number of full Erasmus Mundus Scholarships providing a monthly allowance. Students follow a structured mobility scheme across at least two consortium countries, choose from five specialisation options in Europe and two in Asia, complete a mandatory internship of at least 8 weeks at an institution anywhere in the world, and receive a joint or double degree upon graduation. One intake per year is offered.

The MARIHE programme consortium includes: the University for Continuing Education Krems (Austria — coordinator); Tampere University (Finland); Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Germany); Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) (Hungary); University of Aveiro (Portugal); Beijing Normal University (China); and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (India). Together, the consortium provides a comprehensive expert perspective on higher education, research and innovation from multiple international perspectives. Associated partners include universities, international organisations, and policy bodies from around the world that contribute to the programme’s Knowledge Platform, internship placements, and visiting scholar activities.
